Probing new physics in electroweak penguins through Bd and Bs decays

چکیده
An enhanced electroweak penguin amplitude due to the presence of unknown new physics can explain the discrepancies found between theory and experiment in the B → πK decays, in particular in ACP(B − → πK)−ACP(B̄ 0 → πK), but the current precision of the theoretical and experimental results does not allow to draw a firm conclusion. We argue that the B̄s → φρ 0 and B̄s → φπ 0 decays offer an additional tool to investigate this possibility. These purely isospin-violating decays are dominated by electroweak penguins and we show that in presence of a new physics contribution their branching ratio can be enhanced by about an order of magnitude, without violating any constraints from other hadronic B decays. This makes them very interesting modes for LHCb and future B factories. In [1] we have performed both a model-independent analysis and a study within realistic New Physics models such as a modified-Z-penguin scenario, a model with an additional Z′ boson and the MSSM. In this article we summarise the most important results of our study.

Anatomy of Prominent B and K Decays and Signatures of CP-Violating New Physics in the Electroweak Penguin Sector
The recent observation of Bd → π0π0 at the B factories with a surprisingly large branching ratio represents a challenge for theory, and complements the amazingly small Bd → π+π− rate. We point out that all puzzling B → ππ features can be accommodated in the Standard Model (SM) through non-factorizable hadronic interference effects, extract the relevant parameters, and predict the CP asymmetries...
متن کاملCP Violation and the Role of Electroweak Penguins in Non-leptonic B Decays
The phenomenon of CP violation in the B system and strategies for extracting CKM phases are reviewed. We focus both on general aspects and on some recent developments including CP-violating asymmetries in Bd decays, the Bs system in light of a possible width difference ∆Γs, charged B decays, and SU(3) relations among certain transition amplitudes. In order to describe the relevant non-leptonic ...

We present a general parametrization of B → πK, π0K± and Bd → π0K, πK decays, taking into account both electroweak penguin and rescattering effects. This formalism allows – among other things – an improved implementation of the strategies that were recently proposed by Neubert and Rosner to probe the CKM angle γ with the help of B → πK, π0K± decays. In particular, it allows us to investigate th...
متن کاملA Determination of the CKM - angle α using Mixing - induced CP Violation in the Decays B d → π + π − and B d → K 0 K̄ 0 ∗ Andrzej
We present a method of determining the CKM-angle α by performing simultaneous measurements of the mixing-induced CP asymmetries of the decays Bd → ππ and Bd → KK̄. The accuracy of our approach is limited by SU(3)-breaking effects originating from b̄ → d̄ss̄ QCD-penguin diagrams. Using plausible power-counting arguments we show that these uncertainties are expected to be of the same order as those a...
متن کاملisospin-violating New Physics
The 2.5σ discrepancy between theory and experiment observed in the difference ACP(B − → πK)−ACP(B̄ → π+K−) can be explained by a new electroweak penguin amplitude. Motivated by this result, we analyse the purely isospinviolating decays B̄s → φρ0 and B̄s → φπ0, which are dominated by electroweak penguins, and show that in presence of a new electroweak penguin amplitude their branching ratio can be ...
